We invited several other WI Groups to join us for an “Open Evening” listening to Lynne Mortimer, from the Eastern Daily Press. Lynne gave us such an enjoyable talk about her life as a journalist. She writes two regular columns plus TV previews for Radio Suffolk. She is 63 years old, married, met her husband in 1973 and now has three small grandsons. Lynne described herself as a “crabby, menopausal woman, but not stupid”! Lynne studied politics and economics at University and worked for a building society and as a market analyst for Volvo cars. Lynne took a career break when she had her first child, but then wrote a column for the Ipswich Evening Star “Mum on Monday”. Lynne started training with the EDP, covering law, local government and shorthand. Then in the newsroom as a court reporter. She described some of her various interviews with famous people including Andy Williams, all told with humour. Such an enjoyable evening.
