Polstead WI had a very busy evening at our July meeting.   Our Speaker, Mr Chris Hunt, from Nayland, regaled us with how there was an earthquake in Essex back in April 1884.  It caused considerable damage in Colchester and the surrounding villages in Essex.  Mr Hunt told us that it measured 4.6 on the Richter magnitude scale, and the effects were felt across England as well as in Northern France and Belgium. It caused some damage to approximately 1,200 buildings and the estimated cost of the disaster was £10,000.

Polstead WI celebrated their Centenary on Friday 21st June with a wonderful buffet and a band “The Accidentals” who were excellent.  We are holding an “Open Meeting” on Tuesday September 10th in Polstead Village Hall, and welcoming Rachel Sloane who will give us a talk about “The Secrets Behind the Scene In Local Radio”; this should prove a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
