Polstead WI Meeting November 2017

We had a very enjoyable evening listening to Mr Jim Sephton giving us a talk about “Lanzarote and Cesar Manrique” together with a slide show.  Lanzarote is a volcanic Island and there was an earthquake in 1730 that rumbled on for six years!! We also learned that Mr Cesar Manrique was an artist and an architect born in 1919, who fought in the Franco Spanish Civil War but sadly died in a car crash in 1992.  Mr Manrique recognised the tourist potential on Lanzarote and designed various buildings that were in keeping with the traditional colours used on the Island.

Our WI has had an excellent year, firstly with attending a Group Carol Service, visiting Garden Centres, the theatre, holding an “open” coffee morning and later on a cream tea, and now looking forward to celebrating Christmas.
